The Ethiopian city of Harare is known for the tradition of feeding hyenas every night. It dates back to a famine in the 19th century, when food was offered to the hyenas to deter them from eating their livestock. Now, thanks to an increase in tourists, the Ethiopian government plans to start paying a monthly salary to the hyena men, to keep the ritual alive.
