Mayors and city council members throughout most of Alabama are getting an extra year on their current terms. A new state law will now move municipal elections off the same year as presidential and county elections. It’s a onetime thing, with the exception of Mobile and other major cities the mayors and city council members in 97% of Alabama's cities will serve a five year term thanks to a new law that moves all municipal elections to 2025.
