Yesterday, we gave a preview of the 6th Annual Star Spangled Celebration on the River. This year's event is set for Wednesday, July 3, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Chain Park (and Petal River Park). Today, I’m sharing some good news about how we’re continuing to invest in Hattiesburg’s infrastructure. Through a partnership with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, Hattiesburg has received more than $4 million in state and federal funding to improve sewer lines along the Main Street corridor, with minimal cost to local taxpayers. Construction is underway on a major infrastructure project along West 7th Street, Grace Avenue and North 25th Avenue. The project includes drainage improvements, new sidewalks and replacement of aging water and sewer lines. We’re pleased to announce the completion of a project that we’ve been working toward for a couple of years now. Last week, new lights on Highway 49 South were illuminated for the first time. From Edwards Street to the railroad bridge near West Pine, what was once a very dark and dangerous stretch of roadway is now fully lit.
